Helen at one week. She weighed 5 lbs 14 oz when we got her at one week old. They were worried about her not gaining back the weight she lost after she was born. She weighed 6 lbs 2 oz at birth. So we had to wake her up and feed her every 3 hours. She did not want to be bothered! We had to unwrap her and make her mad so she would eat! She was so little the first week we had her. Thank goodness sweet friends brought her premie size clothes and pj's.
Thank goodness when we took her to her first doctors appointment on Friday, July 1st she was back up to 6 lbs and 2 oz! So, we didn't have to wake her up to feed her anymore. The only trouble was, now she was in the habit and woke up every 2 to 3 hours to eat anyway! She is still wearing premie nightgowns, but newborn sizes for everything else.
We had to go back to the doctor on July 11th to check her weight and get her heel stick for PKU. So sad! She cried so hard and I got hot and sick from seeing her blood for the first time! Thank goodness Brian was there to be strong! We were so proud that she was up to 6 lbs 14 oz!! What a big girl! Of course, she is still in newborn sizes. I am so grateful to all my sweet friends who brought her clothes! I had nothing small enough!
July 20th she turned one month old! I can't believe it! She is so much more alert now. She just looks all around and shakes her arms and legs. She looks like a band director! She prefers to sleep on her stomach, sad that she can only do that when she is on us because of the back is best rule! She eats a full 2 oz every 3 hours and sometimes has a snack of an ounce in between. I can't wait to see what she weighs when we go back to the doctor on Monday. She sleeps better during the day than at night, most of the time. Of course, last night when it was Brians turn to do the night feedings, she slept for 5 hours and 42 minutes!! (thanks to my itzbeen timer from a dear friend I know the exact time)What luck he has!
Emma is so happy to be a big sister! She has done so well, we worried about her for no reason I guess. It is amazing how much our lives have changed in these last 3 weeks. Everything just seems better since she came. We are so grateful and blessed.
***Edited to add: she weighed 7 lbs 14 oz and was 19 inches long! Still only 10th percentile, but that is because she was early.
