After 1 year, 3 months, 1 week and 3 days on the waiting list with Family Adoption Services, we got our baby girl!!! We got "the call" on Monday to come in. We thought we were going to get bad news about a birth mother we had been matched with on April 18. We had been keeping the secret for 10 long weeks because she had lots of personal crisis situations she was dealing with and they were very upfront with us that it might not work. She was due in early August. So, just like we feared, they let us know that things were not going to work out with that birthmother.
BUT, they did have another situation they wanted to talk to us about. They told us they had a baby girl that was one week old and available to be adopted if we wanted her. We were in shock. We had such an emotional rollercoaster in such a short time. The low of losing the baby we thought we were going to have, to the high of another baby. I said, "So, when could we take her home? When can we see her?" Susan (who is the amazing woman who takes care of the babies and owns the agency with her equally amazing husband who is the lawyer for the agency) said, "She is here, in my office. You can take her home today." They left the room to give us a moment to talk and pray about it. OF COURSE, we said this is a no brainer, we want this baby. When they came back in the room, we told them and they went to get her. Brian was so funny, as we were waiting he looked at me and said, "If I had known this was our gotcha day, I would have worn slacks and brushed my teeth!" They brought her down the hall and I looked at Rebecca (my fabulous social worker) and said, "I think I'm about to do the ugly cry!" They put her in my arms and I could not beleive it. I was thinking, "Here you are, I have been looking for you, and here you are, my baby, my everything. Thank you God for this baby, thank you, thank you." Everything about it was just perfect. More than I could ever have dreamed, or imagined, or hoped for. Brian felt the same way and we both took turns holding her and getting our pictures made with everyone.
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who supported us and loved us and prayed for us during our wait. We are so happy to have you to share in our joy as we welcome home forever our beautiful red headed, blue eyed (of course we know they may change) 6 pound 2 ounce, 18 1/2 inch long baby girl!
congrats to you three!
